A white-collar worker who lived in 2011, Claire, woke up and found out that she was in a totally unfamiliar world—the Qing dynasty during the Kang Xi period. In the palace, she was called madam and Lola Millar. But actually, earlier that day Claire had argued with her heartless boyfriend Jason on the street and suddenly, there was an accidental mash-up with a big truck. At that time, her spirit brought her over to the Qing dynasty.

[My head is killing me!] Lola was in a daze and trying to open her eyes.

[Madam, Finally you awoke up! Doctor! Please come! Madam is awake] a girl was yelling while passing water to Lola.

She opened her eyes. Everything was so weird to her, like the Qing dynasty’s clothes and her extremely long hair.

[Why am I here? Where am I?] She was in a flurry. She hoped it was just a dream or someone just wanted to make fun of her.

A girl told her [You fell down the stairs. Are you alright? Can’t you remember?]

Lola was beginning to understand what had happened…

A few days past and Lola was getting better. She was thinking, without any cars during the Qing dynasty, if she could get back to her own time the only way would be in a crash with a horse.

She saw the emperors sons Adam and Bert were riding the horses quickly.

[ahhh!!] She was shaking.

[Are you alright? ] Bert stopped urgently.

[Yes, I’m fine] Damn! She was just about to succeed.

[If you really want to die, I won’t stop my horse next time.] Adam gave her a warning.

Adam could tell that Lola wanted to die on purpose so he privately bought a drug for her.

[This is the best drug in the world; you better not commit suicide without a lot of thought.] Adam said coldly.

Adam’s words led Lola to decide to take things as they came.

Carl was the King’s the other son. Lola’s sister was Carl’s second wife. Carl was deeply attracted to the stubborn, wilful Lola.

[Lola, your sister has standout horseriding skills. Presumably you must have excellent skills too. Let’s go have a ride.] Carl was very attentive in picking a horse for her. He was very concerned about her.

At this moment, Lola was attracted to his heroic horseriding skills.

After a few months of getting along, Carl had something to tell Lola.

[I have discussed it with your sister. She doesn’t mind if I marry you. You and your sister are so close. If we marry, both of you can take good care of each other during palace life.]

Carl was the man whom Lola loved deeply and the most. She was really interested in his request. However, she already knew about his history so well. She knew that Carl would die after he and Adam fought for the throne. All she wanted was that Carl could live on well.

[If it came to the throne or me and you could only choose one, which one would you choose?] Lola was uneasy about his decision.

Carl all along chose the throne, which he never wanted to give up.

Lola was disappointed!! Over the next several days, she couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep.

But, Lola aroused Adam’s attention.

[I brought these foods especially for you. You should have some.] As usual, Adam had a brutal appearance. But actually at the bottom of Adam’s heart he was so worried about her.

Lola had read about this in history books. She knew that Adam would win the throne and be a successful emperor during the Young Zhen dynasty. However, to be successful, he would kill all his brothers.

[I appreciate that.] She answered with fear.

Everyday Adam looked after her attentively. Finally, He won Lola’s trust. Also Lola found out that Adam was not actually that dreadful. She started to become curious about why history wrote that Adam was a heartless emperor. Meanwhile, Lola fell in love again.

Kang Xi was dead in XXX. Adam became the Young Zhen dynasty emperor just like what had been written in history. Carl was not convinced. He wanted to provoke Adam, so he told Adam that he had had a relationship with Lola.

Adam raged!! He couldn’t believe this had happened. He couldn’t believe Lola had lied to him.

Adam had thought that He was going to marry Lola straight after had become an emperor.  But things were not going swimmingly. He was depressed as he announced that Lola was going to be betrothed to Bert. Adam didn’t want to see Lola anymore.

Lola couldn’t say anything because she knew that she shouldn’t lie to him.

[I know you and Lola are best friends. I trust you. Please look after her for me] Adam said.

[Sure, I will take good care of her. You shouldn’t be so worried.] Bert definitely would take responsibility for her just like a sister.

Over the years, Lola’s body became weaker and weaker. She really wanted to have one last chance to see Adam. She wanted to explain and apologies to him. She wrote a letter and hoped Adam could understand and come to visit her.

Every day she dressed up beautifully, even if she felt uncomfortable, because Lola wanted to let Adam see her at her most beautiful moment.

However, Adam did not turn up.

[An Imperial decree has arrived!]  a Eunuch said.

The imperial decree said

‘Lola Millar died last night’

Adam was astonished. He realized that he had not read her letter yet. He overturned every box and basket. He found it and read it with shaking hands.

Dear Adam,

Life was a dream. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

When you protected me, I only wanted is to stay at your side.

When Lola passed away, her spirits came back to the 21st century. She had been lying in bed for two weeks. She opened her eyes. Everything felt like it had just happened. Hot tears welled up in her eyes.

She searched through history books. Everything had not changed and there was no Lola Millar.

She wondered whether it was only a dream.

She decided to go to the museum. Every antique was so familiar to her.

Suddenly, she saw a painting. A painting with the Kang Xi emperor, Adam, Carl, Bert.

And also Lola Millar…

Clare cried because she knew it had been real! Adam was real. What had existed between Adam and her was real.

A guy who looked very similar to Adam walked into the museum.

[Are you alright?] He tried to find a tissue for her

Clare was staring at him.

[Do I know you?] He was confused.

Clare didn’t know where to start. There was not enough time to respond.

The guy left.

Clare stared after him as he left… missing Adam.
